Our purpose

Narrabri West Public School has an established reputation as an innovative school with a strong focus on continual improvement in maximising student learning outcomes through high quality teaching practice. It is our shared understanding that in reflecting, planning and implementing quality programs we can and will make a difference to the students we teach.

We are an inclusive school and value and respect all cultural backgrounds. Cultural knowledge is embedded throughout the curriculum and we encourage and develop programs which will benefit all students.

We believe that the quality of the teacher makes a difference to student learning. We believe in reflective practice where all participants acknowledge that they are on their own learning journey.

We make a difference in our classroom and the classrooms of our colleagues by working closely in a team setting to look at our own professional needs and the needs of all of our students. By sharing our combined professional and community knowledge we will maintain and develop a strong, professional learning community. We participate in professional dialogue to help each other grow.

We design our teaching and learning programs to include:

  • outcomes and learning goals reflected in current syllabus documents
  • current, relevant practices and content to engage students in their learning
  • relevant assessment that is both assessment of learning and assessment for learning
  • what students know and can do and where they need to go next
  • differentiation of process, content and/or product
  • the appropriate use of technology.

We believe that our classrooms should be highly engaging for all students where their teachers are:

  • Creating an environment  of respect and rapport
  • Establishing a culture for learning
  • Managing classroom procedures
  • Managing student behaviour
  • Communicating clearly and accurately
  • Engaging students in learning
  • Providing feedback through formative assessment.

Having a preschool as part of our school enables us to provide comprehensive early childhood and transition to Kindergarten programs. This enables us to focus attention on building a solid foundation, so that students are ready to engage in quality learning experiences in Kindergarten.
