A year at our school
Swimming Carnival
Our annual swimming carnival is an exciting event that brings students together to celebrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and aquatic skills. It’s a fun-filled day where students compete, cheer, and enjoy the spirit of friendly competition.
Easter Family and Friends Fun Day
Our annual Easter Family and Friends Fun Day always has a lovely crowd. Family and friends joined us for the Easter Tabloids and then a picnic lunch. The day always features lots of Easter themed sporting activities and was a chance for the whole school to get together and have some fun.
Visiting Author
Our school hosted a special visit from author Nat Amoore who is known for her engaging and humorous storytelling.
During her visit, Nat shared insights about her writing process, discussed her books and inspired our students with her passion for reading and creativity. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from a professional author and gain a deeper appreciation for literature. Nat also spent some time signing copies of her books.
ANZAC Day March
Narrabri West Public School students joined our community to commemorate ANZAC Day. Well done to everyone who marched and to Ivy and Duncan who laid a wreath on our behalf.
Cross Country
Narrabri West held it's annual Cross Country with students running around Narrabri Lake. Well done to everyone who participated with our winning House being Cunningham.
P & C Mother's Day Breakfast
We had a wonderful morning at our P & C Mother's Day Breakfast. It was lovely to have everyone come and celebrate with us.
Narrabri Show
Preschool to Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the Narrabri Show. All the students enjoyed visiting the pavilions and seeing their artwork on display.... there were even a few prizes!
GRIP leadership
Our captains and prefects attended a GRIP leadership conference in Tamworth, to learn how to lead our school.
The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as School leaders. The style, topics, and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do right now.
New Sports Uniform
We would like to thank our P & C committee for their generous donation of new sports uniforms for all our sporting teams, including football, cricket, soccer, touch football, basketball, netball, softball and tennis. Your support means a great deal to us and our new uniforms will greatly enhance the experience for our athletes. Thank you once again for your continued commitment to our school community.
Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to everyone who participated in our Athletics Carnival, we h had a fantastic couple of days of competition, and everyone tried their best.
Congratulations to Oxley who was our winning house.
NAIDOC Week
At Narrabri West we have had a great time celebrating NAIDOC Week. We held a whole school assembly and special guests from our community. Each stage presented an item for our community. Kindergarten showed us how to count to ten in Gamilaraay by singing Children at the Fire. Stage One taught us how to name parts of our body in language by singing Bina Mil. We learnt about animals in the bush such as bandaar and dhinawan through the entertaining song of Burrula Murrun Yurrula-a by stage two. Our Stage 3 classes worked together to research the meaning of local totems of bandaar (kangaroo), dhinawan (emu) and bigibila (echidna).
Mitch Tambo
As part of our NAIDOC celebrations, we were fortunate to have a performance and workshop with Australian World Music Star, Mitch Tambo. Mitch is Australia's unique and dynamic First Nations entertainer, renowned as "the new voice of our generation."
It was a fantastic performance, and everyone enjoyed singing and dancing to some old favorites sung in Gamilaraay language, including Twinkle twinkle little star and the Hokey Pokey.
Crazy Hair Day
We celebrated Crazy Hair Day raising $202 for Cystic Fibrosis research, which is a cause very close to our hearts here at Narrabri West.
Thanks to Mr Parker for cooking the BBQ at lunchtime, everyone enjoyed their free sausages sandwiches.
Award Assembly
In Week's 5 and 10 of each term we have held Award Assembly for those students who have reached the next level in our award system.
Preschool Science Visit
Our Preschool students had an exciting experience with scientists from the research centre. The hands-on experiments they engaged in provided a rich environment for holistic learning, allowing children to explore scientific concepts through active participation.
Transition to Narrabri High School Program
Year 6 had a visit from the Narrabri High School Leadership Team as part of the Transition to Narrabri High School Program. Our students listened to a presentation and then had the opportunity to ask questions about what it's like at High School. Ms Mallet, who is the Year 7 Advisor for 2026, also attended the session and answered some of our questions.
It was nice to see some former Westies who had a chance to catch up with Westy Bear.

Public Education Week
We were excited to celebrate Public Education Week. Our theme was, "Ignite Your Potential," and this captures the spirit of our school community.
We kicked off the celebrations with a vibrant assembly where every child, from preschool to Year 6, had the chance to shine and showcase their talents. It was great to see our students come together, demonstrating their hard work and creativity!
After the assembly, we enjoyed a wonderful family picnic lunch. Children and their family and friends also had the chance to visit the library and explore our book fair. We invited our guests to visit our classrooms, where they could witness the amazing learning achievements of our students this year.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating our incredible school community. Together, we’re igniting potential and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow!
SRC Semester 2
At our Education Week Assembly our SRC representatives received their badges.
Book Week
Narrabri West enjoyed dressing up to celebrate Book Week. We saw many of our favourite book characters come to life from some of our most loved books.
Preschool Garden
Preschool Blue Group celebrated the fruits (and vegetables!) of their hard work in our preschool garden. Throughout the year, the children have worked collaboratively to care for our vegetable patch, planting, watering and feeding the soil with compost made from worm juice.
Jeans for Genes Day
Well done Narrabri West, together we raised $296.75 for Jeans for Genes Day.
Whiddon Narrabri Visit
Residents from Whiddon Narrabri - Jessie Hunt, Whiddon Narrabri - Robert Young and Home Care visited Narrabri West Public School to watch the students perform their items for our Public Education Week assembly. They enjoyed the poems, musical performances and dances prepared by our students. At the conclusion of the assembly, some of our students had the chance to engage in conversations with the residents, sharing insights about our school while the residents reminisced about their own school days. The students were very excited to have such special guests in the audience.
Spelling Bee
Narrabri West Public School is exceptionally proud of our Premiers Spelling Bee Regional Finals school finalists Beth and Lucy. The school Champions advanced to the regional Spelling Bee finals, held online at the end of last week. Beth and Lucy competed against other students across the state.
Year 6 Canberra Excursion
Year 6 enjoyed a magical snow day! Students spent time throwing snowballs, building snow creations and making wonderful memories together in the snowfields.
Year 6 Canberra Excursion
Students explored Old Parliament House at the Museum of Australian Democracy, toured the National Arboretum, and visited Parliament House for a guided program. The highlight of the day was reflecting at the Australian War Memorial, where students gained a deeper understanding of Australia’s history and honoured those who served.
VP Day
Heidi and Braxton attended the Narrabri RSL Club for the commemoration of the Victory in the Pacific and Vietnam Veteran’s Day. Heidi and Braxton delivered the Prayer for the Nation and the Prayer of Thanksgiving.
Narrabri Zone Athletics Carnival
A large number of Narrabri West Public School students proudly competed in the Narrabri Zone Athletics Carnival at Narrabri High School. This year, 23 of our students were selected in the Narrabri Zone PSSA team to compete at the North West Area PSSA Athletics Championships in Tamworth on 3rd September.
Eddie Woo
Stages 2 & 3 visited Narrabri High School to have an information session with the incredible mathematician Eddie Woo!
Eddie presented to our students a fun and educational look at maths, teaching them it is all about connections and openness.
A huge thank you to Eddie for sharing his passion and knowledge with our community – it was a wonderful day of learning and inspiration.

Stewart House Pyjama Day
We helped support Stewart House Pyjama Day by
students coming dressed to school in their favourite PJs and bringing a gold coin donation to support kids in need. A big thank you to everyone who participated and donated, we raised $220.00.
Together, we helped make a real difference for children who benefit from the amazing programs at Stewart House.
Healthy Harold
We had a visit from Healthy Harold and learnt about big emotions, helping the children to recognise and manage their feelings.
STEM Day
Stage 3 students participated in a STEM Day. In groups, they had to challenge themselves to complete five different activities. The activities included things such as programming cue bots to move around on a course and complete different tasks, make a bridge using cardboard and paddle pop sticks, send messages to each other using Morse Code, design catapults and launch pom poms, and lastly, create a tower out of cardboard and skewers to hold a certain weight. All students thoroughly enjoyed the day and showed off their engineering skills!
Garden Club
Our Garden Club has been enjoying tasting some of their homegrown produce and has been carefully tending to the garden. The worm farm is also doing well and we are looking forward to our garden flourishing in the Spring.
Buddy Reading
1D had a chance to do some 'Buddy reading' with 5/6K in the library. Everyone enjoyed spending some quality time together.
Mates on a Mission
We were fortunate to have a visit from Mike Rolls and Ben Pettingill from Real Life Resilience – Mates on a Mission.
Mike and Ben travel around Australia sharing their powerful personal stories and life lessons to help young people build resilience and develop a positive mindset. The presentation was engaging, relatable and designed to empower students with practical tools to face challenges and bounce back from setbacks.
The visit was a valuable opportunity for our students to hear real-life experiences that support our ongoing efforts to promote resilience, respect and emotional strength. Mike and Ben encouraged us to have good people on our team to help us through life.
Santos Festival of Rugby
On Friday, 19th September, as part of the Santos Festival of Rugby, we welcomed players from the Waratah Rugby Union men's and women's teams. They conducted a rugby union skills session and afterwards spent time with the children for photos and autograph signing.
Thank you to the Waratahs for visiting our school.
Transition to High School
Our Year 6 students enjoyed an exciting transition day at Narrabri High School, taking part in a range of hands-on activities. They tackled STEM challenges, flew drones, visited the animals at the Ag Plot and created gyrocopters in the science labs. Students also joined in games with the Clontarf team before finishing the day with a spectacular rocket launch on the oval. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience high school life and build confidence for next year. Thank you to all of the dedicated staff at Narrabri High School for an outstanding day.
Police Visit at Preschool
At Preschool, the children had a visit from Constable Ben, who talked about his role as a police officer and the tools he uses in his job. The children were excited to have a turn in the police truck and speak on the microphone. Constable Ben also showed them his flashing lights and explained the importance of calling 000 in an emergency.
McDonald's Champion Class Award
Congratulations to 1D, who were the winners of the McDonald's Champion Class Award for this Term.
Thank you to McDonald's Narrabri for the kind donation of Happy Meals to everyone in the class.
University of Sydney, Narrabri Campus
Students from Stages 2 & 3 had a fantastic day at the University of Sydney, Narrabri Campus, where the friendly research and technical farm staff showcased their work. Students took part in hands-on native plant workshops, toured crop fields including wheat, barley, chickpeas and faba beans and learned about drones and modern farming machinery. A big thank you to everyone involved for providing such an engaging experience.
Todd Woodbridge Cup
Students from Stage 2 and Stage 3 recently travelled to Tamworth to compete in the regional Todd Woodbridge Cup tennis tournament. Our Westies looked fantastic in their blue and red uniforms as they played with great skill and enthusiasm. We want to commend all students for their excellent sportsmanship, organisation, and effort throughout the competition. Although we didn’t win this year, we are already looking forward to next year’s event.
We would also like to thank Shane Murphy for organising the local level competition and for supporting our students by dedicating his time and efforts in coaching our students.
Footy Colours Day
The school proudly supported Footy Colours Day. It is a national fundraising event in September where thousands of Aussies come together, proudly sport their team's colours, and raise money so kids don't fight cancer alone. Well done Narrabri West we raised $210.
All Schools Carnival
On Tuesday 8th September, Mr Gilliland, Mrs Dewsbury and Mr Tester accompanied our Stage 2 and 3 Rugby League teams and the Stage 3 Girls League Tag team to compete in the All Schools Carnival at Collins Park, Narrabri.
Each team played six short games against local schools, showing determination, skill and outstanding sportsmanship. All players represented Narrabri West with pride and performed exceptionally well on the field.
P & C Father's Day Breakfast
We had a wonderful morning at our P & C Father's Day Breakfast yesterday. It was lovely to have everyone come and celebrate with us.
Thank you to the wonderful ladies from NDCAS Narrabri for coming and cooking. Thank you to the families who donated eggs for our breakfast, it was very much appreciated.
Happy Father's Day for Sunday to all our Dads, Pops and Grandfathers.
Record Broken
At the Narrabri Zone Athletics Carnival back in Term 3, Caitlen broke the Girls 12-13 Years Shot Put record. Caitlen threw a distance of 8.66m.
Well done Caitlen.
Swimming Survival Program
In October, our Year 2-6 students begun our comprehensive water safety program that goes beyond just swimming. The focus is on personal safety, survival techniques, life jacket use and rescue skills. The program was all about equipping our kids with practical skills and knowledge to keep them safe in the water and empower them to help others in emergency situations.
NSWPSSA Primary Athletic Championships
In Week 2, we had 7 students compete at the NSWPSSA Primary Athletic Championships at the Sydney Athletic Centre. Everyone had a great time with some great results and really enjoyed the experience.
Record Broken
Congratulations to Rory who broke the Junior boys 200m record at the North West Athletics carnival. The carnival was held in Tamworth at the end of Term 3 and Rory set a new time of 30.43 seconds.
In November, we celebrated Grandparents Day with a family picnic in the school grounds. It was lovely to see so many Grandparents and Great Grandparents in our school. All our guests were invited into the classrooms to see all the quality work the children have been doing during the year.

Transition to Kindergarten
‘Ready, Set, Kinder!’, our comprehensive transition to school program concluded with a special ceremony sharing the achievements of each child. The children were presented with a portfolio of their learning and they also performed some action songs that they had learnt, for their families and buddies from Year 5. The Year 5 children are looking forward to continuing visiting the preschool each week. Westy Bear visited and the children and their families enjoyed the fruit skewers made by the children.
It was another successful transition, providing opportunities for the children to the experience the many facets of school life and enabling them to get to know the teachers.
We look forward to seeing them all again as Kindergarten students in 2026!
Remembrance Day
Our School Captains attended the Memorial Service for Remembrance Day at the Narrabri RSL. Duncan and Ivy laid a wreath on our behalf.
Lest We Forget
Year 6 High School Transition
Our Year 6 students visited Narrabri High School for their second high school transition day. They had a fantastic time creating toolboxes and laser-engraving their names on them, making pizzas, designing cartoon canvases and writing letters to their future selves for a time capsule. Exciting times ahead!
Diamond Award
We proudly held our latest award assembly, a special occasion to recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievements of our students. Congratulations to all those students who have reached the next level in our award system—your dedication and commitment to excellence are truly commendable. This assembly was particularly exciting as we had the honour of announcing the very first recipients of the prestigious Diamond Award, a new and distinguished accolade within our award system designed to acknowledge exceptional effort and outstanding accomplishments.
World Diabetes Day
We celebrated World Diabetes Day by wearing blue. This is a cause very close to our hearts and together we raised $300 to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Australia.
